Favorite Looks from Days 2 & 3 of NYFW

I’ll cut right to chase.  So far it has been all about the whites, sheers and school boy collared shirts.  Could we get any more minimalist? Probably not, but minimalist is one of my favorite styles, so I am pretty satisfied with the spring 2011 collections, so far. Now onto the real business…

Is mixing prints still a trend? Whatever, even if it isn’t, this outfit is simple, comfortable, and chic which are all perfect for resort wear.  The black and white nautical stripes matched with a brown belt is a great way to play around with neutrals.

I have to admit I have a cropped tee obsession so when I came across this cropped chemise, I died.  Chemises are clean but Doo. Ri managed to make them both clean and hip.  Matched with a wide-legged pant, this look is more than perfect.

To me, this Ports 1961 dress is the definition of chic steaming from its modesty.  A little Faye Dunaway maybe? I also love the hair and make-up!

This Costello Tagliapietra dress is impeccably cut and wonderfully flowy.

For a little more edge while remaining to be minimal, this Rag & Bone sheer skirt maxi dress is fabulous.  The color combination of neutrals remind me of my mother, which is a good thing in this case.

With one of the most talked about new designers showing early on in fashion week, picking just one of his looks was not enough.  I narrowed it down to my two favorite looks.  The first being a powerful cream short suit matched with the most stunning feminine black bow-tie blouse.  The second is a beautiful cocktail dress, the one I would most want to own/wear out of the whole collection.

The O.M.G. moment of the 2&3 days came from none other than Christian Siriano.  I can’t say the O.M.G., in this case, implies anything positive.  Honestly, what was he thinking? Why the huge ruffles, almost double the model’s width, in an florescent red that I don’t think even existed before this dress? Even on a model this dress isn’t flattering.  Talk about extravagance!

My Style: The Definition of Me

with one comment

If you know me well, you know that this look can’t get any more Nadine.  I always play with trends and mix up my look and yet you’ll always see me go back to my original simple tailored look.  Are you thinking, what is there to this look?  My answer to you would be, some of the most stylish people we know, have the simplest looks ever. Examples include Carolina Herrera known for her never-changing white shirt matched with a black skirt, Tonne Goodman, Vogue’s Fashion Director, known for her classic american style and Karl Lagerfeld known for his black suit, white shirt, white pulled back ponytail and black sunglasses.

I don’t mean to compare myself with these fashion icons, but I want to share with you a lesson that I have learnt throughout the years.  It is always fun to play around, but once you stick to what looks best on you, you’ll exude confidence, comfort and most importantly style.

Loving Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton Fall 2010 Ad Campaign

I am usually not the biggest Louis Vuitton fan, but the Fall 2010 collection is to die for, mainly because he brought the woman back.  Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge fan of the androgyny look, but I am always thrilled to see something different.  Marc Jacobs brought us back to the 1950’s voluptuous era.  Very Mad Man-esque.

My favorite part of the whole collection is the beauty pump.  I wish I could own the blue croc version but they are the price of a Chanel bag!  So I figured the satin version would be a little more affordable.  I can imagine wearing them now and storing them in my closet for when I am 40, 50 or 60 and they will remain to look chic.

Giovanna Battaglia in Vintage

Giovanna Battaglia.  The name is enough for the fashion blogging world.  You’ll find her in every fashion blog and I had to be included.  The Italian former Dolce & Gabanna model is now a fashion editor at L’Uomo Vogue (Italian Men’s Vogue).  She is even dating Carine Roitfeld’s son Vladmir.  But what is most important of all, her sense of style.  She somehow looks chic, classic, trendy and unique always and all at once.  I love this colorblock outfit because it is summery, girly and at the same time very professional chic.

She is simply a fashion icon.  Garance Doré, one of my favorite bloggers, wisely said ” It’s just that Giovanna can wear whatever she wants and she still stays Giovanna. Always, and never the same, with her hair down or up, in a parka or evening gown, never a fault in her taste, she is the incarnation of the famous adage that we are all so tired of hearing, mostly just because it’s true: Fashion comes and goes. Style stays.” – Garance Dorè

For sure you’ll see more of Giovanna to come. BE INSPIRED!

Cher dancing with Christian

Confederacy, an LA boutique, got Calvin Klein’s Francisco Costa to remake the famous slinky white Calvin Klein slip-dress that Cher wore in Clueless.  We all remember the scene when Cher walks down the staircase for a date with Christian and her dad asks “What are you wearing” and she replies “a dress”.  Her father then responds “says who?” and she quickly anwers “Calvin Klein”.

All the blogs are blogging about the dress but as an inspiration blog I wanted to bring us back to Clueless fashion. It is by far one of the best chick and chic flicks ever.  Cher was shopping at Fendi and wearing Azzedine Alaïa, she was what we call, ‘on top of fashion’.  And ladies, please admit that you STILL dream of the computer that stores every single item of your wardrobe and helps you create outfits!

Look of the Week: Dashing David

David Beckham's Airport Style

In an immaculate airport outfit, David Beckham looks dashing.  The practicality of his outfit while remaining to look stylish is what makes this outfit truly exceptional.  He layered a grey sweatshirt on top of a navy blazer and a white v-neck tee, useful when on a cold airplane.  Ladies, take a cue from David, you can look chic when traveling and not at the expense of comfort.  I am not sure what the maroon beanie is for, maybe to avoid paparazzi or maybe to keep him warm.  The dark camel braided belt is awesome but what truly is phenomenal is forest green doctor bag.  The bag is uncommon yet hip and can fit a lot of the personal belongings we lug around when traveling.  Be inspired.

The Chanel Resort 2011 Collection

with one comment

If you’re a fashion fanatic you wait for the Chanel Resort collection held in St. Tropez this year.  With more than 80 outfits to choose from your bound to find something you’d fall in love with.  Karl Lagerfeld has done it again; BRAVO!  The setting was gorgeous with models coming onto the runway in speed boats and Georgia May Jagger was escorted on a motorbike by Sébastien Jondeau.

The extensive collection constisted of pastel printed resort wear, pastel colorblocks, white romantic dresses, hippie rocker chic outfits and more.  The collection tailored, in my opinion, to everyone.  What do you think?  Be inspired.

Chanel's Hippie Rocker

I am simply in love with these upcoming items.  The one piece is so Chanel yet modern and perfect for the riveria.  The maxi printed silk dress looks like a cool cover-up, maybe perfect for Nikki Beach.  The blue jumpsuit, I imagine wearing it to dinner at the Andrea beach.
