Favorite Looks from Days 2 & 3 of NYFW

with one comment

I’ll cut right to chase.  So far it has been all about the whites, sheers and school boy collared shirts.  Could we get any more minimalist? Probably not, but minimalist is one of my favorite styles, so I am pretty satisfied with the spring 2011 collections, so far. Now onto the real business…

Is mixing prints still a trend? Whatever, even if it isn’t, this outfit is simple, comfortable, and chic which are all perfect for resort wear.  The black and white nautical stripes matched with a brown belt is a great way to play around with neutrals.

I have to admit I have a cropped tee obsession so when I came across this cropped chemise, I died.  Chemises are clean but Doo. Ri managed to make them both clean and hip.  Matched with a wide-legged pant, this look is more than perfect.

To me, this Ports 1961 dress is the definition of chic steaming from its modesty.  A little Faye Dunaway maybe? I also love the hair and make-up!

This Costello Tagliapietra dress is impeccably cut and wonderfully flowy.

For a little more edge while remaining to be minimal, this Rag & Bone sheer skirt maxi dress is fabulous.  The color combination of neutrals remind me of my mother, which is a good thing in this case.

With one of the most talked about new designers showing early on in fashion week, picking just one of his looks was not enough.  I narrowed it down to my two favorite looks.  The first being a powerful cream short suit matched with the most stunning feminine black bow-tie blouse.  The second is a beautiful cocktail dress, the one I would most want to own/wear out of the whole collection.

The O.M.G. moment of the 2&3 days came from none other than Christian Siriano.  I can’t say the O.M.G., in this case, implies anything positive.  Honestly, what was he thinking? Why the huge ruffles, almost double the model’s width, in an florescent red that I don’t think even existed before this dress? Even on a model this dress isn’t flattering.  Talk about extravagance!

Shopping Bag: Tip Top

For my second edition of my shopping bag, I decided to pick two tops perfect for fall.  They are two completely polar items but I like placing diversity and opposition hand in hand.

I picture the Elizabeth and James printed blouse tucked in a cream trouser for a Margaux Hemingway look paired with a loose up-do, tan booties and the Fendi’s tan Classico bag.  Oh what a wonderful world!

The Topshop knitted cropped sweater is fabulous for layering, a key fall dressing technique.  Layering is a great way to keep warm and add personality to your outfit.  Imagine a light grey long-sleeved tee, camel leggings, brown riding boots, a camel scarf, and a light grey large YSL Muse Two bag.  As Rachel Zoe would say, mah-jor!

Kate Moss for TopShop

The Kate Moss for Topshop summer collection has finally been launched!  Above is a video of Kate Moss modeling the collection.  I love the soft lighting continuously used in ads this season.  For those of you who have been waiting in anticipation, the collection is light and breezy with a lot of high-waisted feminine shorts.  The collection consists of more than 80 pieces. She played with fabrics such as lace, suede, silk and more.  Below I created 3 outfits from the collection.  What do you think?  Are you as excited as I am?

Look of the Week: Hung on Hanneli

leave a comment »

This week I decided to feature Hanneli Mustaparta, a model, MTV VJ and fashion blogger, who hailed the fashion world from Norway.  I came across the tall beautiful Norwegian while reading the Vogue bloggers feature and that is when my obsession with her blog began.

Since the Coachella Festival was held this past week and many cool vintage outfits take over the blogosphere, I chose to pick my favorite Coachella look. Hanneli’s look for the festival was the definition of spring fab yet somehow working well with the “hippie” look of the festival fans.  Here, Hanneli is wearing Catherine Hammel shorts, Nina Jarebrink Shoes, Selima shades and vintage Venice tourist scarf.  I also found the second picture, on Style.com, where the model is sporting almost the exact same attire, but instead of a cashmere sweater an American Apparel tank top and she switched her Nina Jarebrink bag for a Mulberry.  I love how the outfit is all cream’s yet the textures and shapes add style.  Be inspired.

Ps.  I decided to add this picture as well, another Coachella attendee that I thought was pretty cool.  I just couldn’t resist to keep it to just one!  I love the Catherine Hepburn/Brigitte Bardot look she is going for.  AWESOME VINTAGE ROMPER!

My Favorite Spring/Summer Bags

leave a comment »

While I have to admit that I am much for of a shoe girl than a bag girl, the shoes this spring are way too bulky for my liking.  So I decided to share with the bag ladies my favorite spring/summer bags.

My absolute favorite bag, created by none other than Derek Lam, is original yet versatile.  It can be carried on your arm, your shoulder, or across the body.  At the same time, because of the cream and chestnut brown base, it can be worn with the latest spring trends of military, neutrals, and blushes.

The Celine Boxy tote took over fall fashion week carried by leading fashion magazine editors.  With time, it has come to be one of my favorite new bags, simply because it is different.  We haven’t seen this shape and size for a while.  Celine also created an amazing box across the body bag in a fabulous midnight blue, so props to Phoebe Philo.

The Miu Miu cream deerskin tote is a perfect spring classic, only if you can keep it clean.  If you can’t, and prefer black, then I would suggest the Mulberry Alexa which is very similar in style.

For evening bags, I suggest the Judith Leiber clam shell clutch and the Alexander McQueen python clutch.  The clam shell clutch is perfect for a destination wedding while the McQueen clutch is more unique for a fashionable night out.

Finally, the lust over bag, the craze of bloggers across the world, the Proenza Schouler PS1.  You can find it in different shapes and sizes, but my favorite is the large camel crocodile bag.  All I can say to myself though is, dream on.  Maybe one day!

Look of the week: Refined Rachel

Rachel Bilson in Preen and Brian Atwood

Rachel Bilson, the actress and big time fashion enthusiast, is my best friend’s favorite fashionista because she never ceases to amaze.  At the N.Y.C. premiere of Waiting for Forever, Rachel donned a peek-a-boo cream Preen bustier dress with nude Brian Atwood pumps and a Cecelia clutch.  Who doesn’t love Preen and Brian Atwood?  Then the both of them together…on Rachel Bilson!  She looks refined yet sexy with the peek-a-boo and the pumps are simply perfect, very useful for the spring season.  Click HERE to preorder them on Intermix online.  What do you think?

Can you tell I am obsessed with Karl Lagerfeld?  The fashion designer, also a photographer, is known to capture extraordinarily fashionable moments defining fashion and Karl.  Aside from Chanel and his namesake line, Karl has again wowed me and the fashion world with the Fendi S/S 2010 collection.  This dreamy ad campaign for the collection is simply beautiful.  Anja Rubik, looks stunning, wearing two gorgeous cream silk dresses pictured with soft lighting in a divinely magical location.
