Favorite Looks from Days 2 & 3 of NYFW

I’ll cut right to chase.  So far it has been all about the whites, sheers and school boy collared shirts.  Could we get any more minimalist? Probably not, but minimalist is one of my favorite styles, so I am pretty satisfied with the spring 2011 collections, so far. Now onto the real business…

Is mixing prints still a trend? Whatever, even if it isn’t, this outfit is simple, comfortable, and chic which are all perfect for resort wear.  The black and white nautical stripes matched with a brown belt is a great way to play around with neutrals.

I have to admit I have a cropped tee obsession so when I came across this cropped chemise, I died.  Chemises are clean but Doo. Ri managed to make them both clean and hip.  Matched with a wide-legged pant, this look is more than perfect.

To me, this Ports 1961 dress is the definition of chic steaming from its modesty.  A little Faye Dunaway maybe? I also love the hair and make-up!

This Costello Tagliapietra dress is impeccably cut and wonderfully flowy.

For a little more edge while remaining to be minimal, this Rag & Bone sheer skirt maxi dress is fabulous.  The color combination of neutrals remind me of my mother, which is a good thing in this case.

With one of the most talked about new designers showing early on in fashion week, picking just one of his looks was not enough.  I narrowed it down to my two favorite looks.  The first being a powerful cream short suit matched with the most stunning feminine black bow-tie blouse.  The second is a beautiful cocktail dress, the one I would most want to own/wear out of the whole collection.

The O.M.G. moment of the 2&3 days came from none other than Christian Siriano.  I can’t say the O.M.G., in this case, implies anything positive.  Honestly, what was he thinking? Why the huge ruffles, almost double the model’s width, in an florescent red that I don’t think even existed before this dress? Even on a model this dress isn’t flattering.  Talk about extravagance!

My Style: The Definition of Me

If you know me well, you know that this look can’t get any more Nadine.  I always play with trends and mix up my look and yet you’ll always see me go back to my original simple tailored look.  Are you thinking, what is there to this look?  My answer to you would be, some of the most stylish people we know, have the simplest looks ever. Examples include Carolina Herrera known for her never-changing white shirt matched with a black skirt, Tonne Goodman, Vogue’s Fashion Director, known for her classic american style and Karl Lagerfeld known for his black suit, white shirt, white pulled back ponytail and black sunglasses.

I don’t mean to compare myself with these fashion icons, but I want to share with you a lesson that I have learnt throughout the years.  It is always fun to play around, but once you stick to what looks best on you, you’ll exude confidence, comfort and most importantly style.

Look of the Week: Sheer Sienna

Sienna Miller

Sienna Miller is the epitome of cool street style.  I love how this look defines simplicity, yet somehow, is fashion forward. A huge spring/summer trend is to wear fall fabrics such as suede and leather, Sienna does just that with her nude suede shorts.  Her cropped grey sheer tee is a neat way of making the outfit alluring.  To add a young hip feel, Sienna accessorized with off-white Opening Ceremony buckle open-toe boots, a black Balenciaga bag and silver cuffs.  She even made me want to get bangs!  Be inspired.

The Belle of Cannes

I have always loved Kate Beckinsale’s red carpet look.  This year at Cannes, Kate has my vote for the belle of the Cannes 2010 Film Festival.  She wore Marchesa, Gucci, and Balmain with each dress completely different from the other.

Kate started her Cannes red carpet appearances with the premiere of Robin Hood in a gorgeous wedding-like Marchesa.  The tulle train and embellished corset are exceptional Marchesa details.

She later donned a fabulous shiny off-white off-the-shoulder Gucci gown with silver bows.  The dress is flattering and simple yet all the SHINE makes it Cannes worthy.

Then came serious change, the Balmain rocker dress.  The dress flaunts Kate’s toned body, looks glam and edgy, all at the same time.  The studded gold and black belt creates a really nice break to the all sequined dress.

The Metropolitan Constume Institute Gala 2010

The Oscars of the east coast, the Metropolitan Costume Institute Gala, is THE fashion event of the year in my opinion.  I always wait in anticipation to see what everyone is wearing and when I head to NYC, I make it a point to check out the halls of the exhibition.  Last year’s Model as a Muse was one of my favorite themes ever.  This year, the theme is American Women: Fashioning a National Identity.  The hosts of the night were Oprah Winfrey, Patrick Robinson of the GAP, and Anna Wintour, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue.  GAP is part of the American heritage and is a perfect match in my opinion for this year’s gala but how could GAP dress women for the red carpet?  I didn’t buy the high-end designers creating dresses for GAP.  Actually, I didn’t like the collaborations at all, maybe it was because I didn’t feel it was GAP enough.

I was impressed by the dresses this year, they truly defined American fashion which is simple, elegant, and modern.  Below are some of my favorite dresses.  The Calvin Klein clad ladies looked the absolute best, with my utlimate favorite being Dree Hemingway.

Look of the week: Refined Rachel

Rachel Bilson in Preen and Brian Atwood

Rachel Bilson, the actress and big time fashion enthusiast, is my best friend’s favorite fashionista because she never ceases to amaze.  At the N.Y.C. premiere of Waiting for Forever, Rachel donned a peek-a-boo cream Preen bustier dress with nude Brian Atwood pumps and a Cecelia clutch.  Who doesn’t love Preen and Brian Atwood?  Then the both of them together…on Rachel Bilson!  She looks refined yet sexy with the peek-a-boo and the pumps are simply perfect, very useful for the spring season.  Click HERE to preorder them on Intermix online.  What do you think?
