Favorite Looks from Days 2 & 3 of NYFW

with one comment

I’ll cut right to chase.  So far it has been all about the whites, sheers and school boy collared shirts.  Could we get any more minimalist? Probably not, but minimalist is one of my favorite styles, so I am pretty satisfied with the spring 2011 collections, so far. Now onto the real business…

Is mixing prints still a trend? Whatever, even if it isn’t, this outfit is simple, comfortable, and chic which are all perfect for resort wear.  The black and white nautical stripes matched with a brown belt is a great way to play around with neutrals.

Bensoni

I have to admit I have a cropped tee obsession so when I came across this cropped chemise, I died.  Chemises are clean but Doo. Ri managed to make them both clean and hip.  Matched with a wide-legged pant, this look is more than perfect.

To me, this Ports 1961 dress is the definition of chic steaming from its modesty.  A little Faye Dunaway maybe? I also love the hair and make-up!

This Costello Tagliapietra dress is impeccably cut and wonderfully flowy.

For a little more edge while remaining to be minimal, this Rag & Bone sheer skirt maxi dress is fabulous.  The color combination of neutrals remind me of my mother, which is a good thing in this case.

Rag & Bone

With one of the most talked about new designers showing early on in fashion week, picking just one of his looks was not enough.  I narrowed it down to my two favorite looks.  The first being a powerful cream short suit matched with the most stunning feminine black bow-tie blouse.  The second is a beautiful cocktail dress, the one I would most want to own/wear out of the whole collection.

The O.M.G. moment of the 2&3 days came from none other than Christian Siriano.  I can’t say the O.M.G., in this case, implies anything positive.  Honestly, what was he thinking? Why the huge ruffles, almost double the model’s width, in an florescent red that I don’t think even existed before this dress? Even on a model this dress isn’t flattering.  Talk about extravagance!

Favorite Looks from Day 1 of NYFW

Below are some of my favorite looks from Day 1 of NYFW.  I don’t think an intro is necessary in this post other than, I couldn’t be more excited.

I love this Lyn Devon look because it is both feminine and masculine at the same time.  The cropped trouser is a spring take on the fall trouser trend.

This look makes me picture a modern-day GatsbyI love the cropped cardigan with a maxi skirt.  The volume created by the hat is to die for and it is organic too.

The styling of the outfit below is fabulous.  Who doesn’t love black and white?  The layering of the skirt and the belt add a tough edge to white blouse.

The willowy white boho dress with rockin’ boots and a huge collared jacket make you really think that mixing and matching does work.  I totally picture a model strutting her stuff in Stockholm in this outfit.

And for the O.M.G. moment of the day, Nicholas K styled his collection with a belly dancer belt inspiration! See below what I mean!  It is tied the exact same way and I am crazy for the inspiration coming from my roots.

My Style: Fancying Fall

I am super excited for fall because I love mid-season looks.  Today’s look is inspired by this wonderful renewed vintage Bishette bag.  The pinkish red color with beige and brown, the texture of the chenille fabric and the vintage frame make this bag one of my favorite Bishette’s of all time.  This classic 1940’s shaped bag is perfect for a day out around town while also working an evening bag.

Diane Kruger in J. Crew, Hermes bag, and Lanvin shoes

Diane Kruger is by far one of my favorite fashionistas.  This week, just back from St. Tropez, Diane is taking New York, New York style; sporting none other than one of THE American retail brands, J. Crew.   She mixed two colors that I never thought of putting together, a bright purple sweater cardigan with a chrome green tweed skirt.  She accessorized with a black Hermes across-the-shoulder bag, Lanvin nude pumps with black ankle straps and gold chain details, and a straw fedora.  The whole outfit is UNEXPECTED, stuff I would never think of putting together, but it WORKS.  She looks amazing.

Stella McCartney Floral Inspiration

My inspiration behind this post is THE Stella McCartney dress that is taking the fashion world by a storm, me included! It was love at first sight for me.  I would give anything to own this dress hoping for the perfect occasion to wear it.  It only deserves a perfect occasion.  Don’t you think?

Let alone being obsessed, it inspired me.  It made me anxious for girly, flirty, floral outfits.  Below are some I have created for modern women and young, flirty & fun girls. See where you fit best and be inspired!

Lauren Remington Platt at Saks & Whitney Museum Cocktail Event

White outfits are elegant, dazzling, and classic.  One of New York City’s socialites, Lauren Remington Platt, wore an all white outfit to a Saks & Whitney Museum cocktail event.  I loved how she plays with materials, such as the chiffon top worn with a stretchy silk skirt.  Then she accessorizes her outfit with fabulous silver accents.  Her heavy silver necklace, embroidered evening bag, and bedazzled shoes add an amazing richness to her outfit.  Be inspired.

Fab Building in West el Balad

While in West el Balad, downtown, recently visiting  jewelers in Cairo, Egypt, I came across this wonderful building which made me wish I was invited for a party there, a la Gossip Girl.  I can picture wearing a fabulous cocktail outfit which screams spring trends, maybe add a fun hair accessory.  Spring runways were covered with fabulous peaches and creams, power pastels and below are my favorite spring pastel items I could possible wear to a party!
